Abigail Hayes Receives Dr. Kimchi Memorial Graduate Travel Award
ARC Lab student Abigail Hayes has received the Dr. Kimchi Memorial Graduate Travel Award from the American Society of Criminology’s Division on Corrections and Sentencing.
Hayes’ research examines prison violence at the housing-unit level, focusing on whether the concentration and configuration of security threat group (STG) affiliates within housing units help explain patterns of assault and whether correctional management strategies alter those dynamics.
The award honors the life and accomplishments of Dr. Anat Kimchi and supports doctoral students traveling to the American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting to present their research.
The Dr. Kimchi Memorial Graduate Travel Award recognizes promising quantitative, data-driven research related to racial and social justice, recidivism, and formal institutions of social control. Recipients are selected based on the scholarly potential and substantive relevance of their research, methodological rigor, implications for justice policy and practice, and potential to contribute to translational criminology.
Hayes will be formally recognized at the 2026 American Society of Criminology Annual Meeting in Chicago.
